Bridge of the Saracens in Sicily
The bridge of the Saracens is in Sicily near the town of Adrano, close to Catania.
It is uncertain whether it was built by the Saracens, name given to the Arabs in the Middle Age, or by the Normans, populations that inhabited Sicily for a long time.
The bridge is made of stone and located on the Simeto River whose waters have carved the Forre Laviche (ravines) in the basalt formed by the lava flows from the Volcano Etna.
The Forre Laviche are gorges with 16 to 49 feet high walls.
