Video An Aerial View of Abruzzo
Abruzzo is a Green area of Italy. In the region there are National parks, a Regional Park and many protected areas.
Rare animals and plants species including Golden Eagles, Brown Bear and Edelweiss live within these areas.
Abruzzo borders the Adriatic Sea and the Apennines. It saw ancient populations like the Sabines, whose dialect is still spoken in the city of L’Aquila.
In Abruzzo the villages are interesting for their Medieval and Renaissance structure still intact and some are located within the protected areas.
In some places on the coast of Abruzzo special machineries for fishing were built, the trabucchi. They are a work of engineering that uses the wood of Aleppo Pine (flexible and resistant to bad weather) and allows fishing without going to the sea with boats and thus being independent from weather conditions.
