Old Bridge

Ponte Vecchio is located in Florence in the Tuscany Region. It crosses the River Arno from North to South, it connects Uffizi (North) and Via Guicciardini and Via Costa San Giorgio (South). Via Guicciardini leads to Piazza Pitti and Via Costa San Giorgio leads to Forte Belvedere. The tradition tells that it was built by the Romans.
The important feature of the Old Bridge are the houses that are now occupied by the goldsmiths’ laboratories. On the top of the houses in the 1565 Vasari, Architect, built “the Vasari corridor or skywalk” long about 1 km to connect the Palazzo Vecchio, with the Palazzo Pitti.
The walk leading from the Centre of Firenze, Palazzo Vecchio, to the southern area that the Florentines call Oltrarno, is beautiful and pleasant.

Florence by Dino Campana
(Uffizi)

Inside your multicolored bridges
The Arno presaging quietly strands
And just breaks in calm reflections
Severe arches among fading flowers

The blue arch of the intercolumniation
Shakes striped among sublime buildings
Candide lines in the blue: lost
Flights: on pale marble youth in columns.
